High-resolution telecentric lenses are specialised optical lenses designed primarily to ensure that the shape and proportions of the object being imaged remain constant. They are widely used in the fields of machine vision, precision measurement and high-precision defect detection, with typical applications including industrial automated inspection, precision dimensional measurement and product appearance inspection.

Conventional optical lenses are prone to perspective distortion; as objects are positioned at different distances from the lens, the size of the image can vary, which directly affects measurement accuracy. High-resolution telecentric lenses utilise a unique optical path structure to eliminate perspective errors, ensuring that the size of the image remains essentially consistent for objects of the same size, regardless of their position within the depth of field. Furthermore, equipped with a high-resolution optical design, they can clearly capture fine details such as minute contours, subtle scratches and narrow gaps, combining distortion-free imaging with high-definition resolution—a core advantage that distinguishes them from standard industrial lenses.

In industrial automation inspection scenarios, numerous in-line inspection stations on production lines impose stringent requirements for imaging stability. These lenses can work in conjunction with vision systems to continuously capture images of workpieces, reliably identifying the presence or absence of materials, the positioning of workpieces and the correctness of assembly. They are suited to uninterrupted automated production line operations, minimising misjudgements caused by imaging distortion.

Precision dimensional measurement is the primary application of this lens. Quantitative inspection of the bore diameter, thickness, spacing and contour tolerances of minute components requires an extremely low tolerance for measurement error. Thanks to its constant magnification characteristic, the vision algorithm is able to accurately calculate various dimensional parameters, meeting the requirements for micrometre-level precision measurement.

High-resolution telecentric lenses are also essential for product appearance inspection. The high-definition imaging capabilities of these lenses enable the detection of minute surface defects and the identification of appearance flaws such as scratches, notches, stains and deformations; they are widely used in the appearance quality control of various precision components.

It should be noted that high-resolution telecentric lenses have a specific effective working depth of field; the workpiece under inspection must be positioned within the appropriate distance range to ensure both distortion-free imaging and high resolution are achieved simultaneously. Exceeding this range will progressively reduce imaging and measurement performance.
