High-Precision Dimensional Inspection Solution for Light-Proof Glass Bottles

Testing Background

Biopharmaceutical, vaccine, and chemical pharmaceutical injection manufacturers have extremely stringent control requirements for key dimensions—such as the bottle neck and body—when producing light-protective medical glass vials. The test specimens in this study are light-protective medical glass vials with a diameter of approximately 23.904 mm, made from Type I borosilicate glass and Type II low-borosilicate glass. Each vial must undergo precision comparison against customer drawings to ensure that every single vial meets the standards for injection packaging materials.

 

 

 

Two Major Challenges in Traditional Testing

 

1. Low efficiency. Traditional coordinate measuring machines require glass bottles to be placed horizontally in specialized fixtures. The inspection process is cumbersome, and the horizontal orientation prevents full coverage of the bottle’s surface, resulting in blind spots in the measurement results.

2. High changeover costs. Production lines handle a wide variety of glass bottles, and switching between different product specifications requires frequent program changes, leading to lengthy downtime for parameter adjustments and significantly slowing down the production line’s cycle time.

 

 

 

Solution: Telecentric Measurement System

 

 

To address these challenges, an online image measurement system has been introduced to enable a “place upright, measure immediately” inspection mode.

5. Compatible with both in-line inspection and offline spot-checking modes, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

 

 

 

Test Methods

 

Place the glass products upright on the equipment platform, edit the corresponding measurement program, and click “Acquire.” The system will then automatically complete the inspection and display the dimensional results in an intuitive manner. There is no need to change fixtures or perform any additional operations for the same product; simply replace the product on the platform to quickly proceed to the next round of inspection.
